Our Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale tour will show you two of the most important archeological sites of Sicily.
Our driver will pick you up outside/nearby your accommodation in Taormina or in its close vicinity (Giardini Naxos, Castelmola). Depending on the accommodation’s location, we will organize a convenient meeting point. Each of our vehicles can accommodate up to 8 participants.
The driver will accompany you to the Valley of the Temples, Europe’s biggest Archaeological Park (1300 hectares) and UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997.
We will supply an informative brochure and a map for a self-guided tour, which will approximately take one hour and a half. The Archaeological Park hosts the ruins of 11 temples.
You will see, among others, the Temple of Concordia, which is the best preserved of all; the 8 remaining columns of the Temple of Hercules; and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which was the largest in the Western Mediterranean.
Either in Agrigento or in Piazza Armerina, we will offer a light lunch with local products; alternatively, you could decide to have lunch on your own.
The last stop of the Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale tour is the Roman Villa, in Piazza Armerina.
This place has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich and big collection of Roman mosaics.
The villa and its artworks date to the early 4th century AD.
The mosaic and opus sectile floors cover some 3,500 m2 and are almost unique in their excellent state of preservation due to the landslide and floods that covered the remains.
Although less well-known, an extraordinary collection of frescoes covered not only the interior rooms but also the exterior walls.
At the end of the Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale tour, in the evening, the driver will drop you off at the starting point.
