Rifugio Sapienza transfer to Etna South from Taormina

Would you like a Rifugio Sapienza transfer in order to see the lunar landscape and take the cableway, but you don’t’ know how to reach it? We have the solution for you.

Our driver will pick you up by your accommodation and will drive you directly to Rifugio Sapienza, on Etna South.
You will see the landscape change as you travel up the various villages along the way to Etna; the typical Mediterranean vegetation, mostly made of citrus trees, pistachio and almond trees, and vineyards, will make way for the mountain vegetation, such as chestnuts and pine trees.

During your Rifugio Sapienza transfer, you will come across some typical Etnean small towns; the first is Santa Venerina, famous for its liquor production. Then you will pass by Zafferana Etnea, known as the main honey producer of the entire island. You will, in fact, learn how each village belonging to the Etna area has its own specialty; this uniqueness derives from the biodiversity of the fertile environment and the numerous microclimates of the area.

You will get to Nicolosi, whose district encloses the Rifugio Sapienza and Funivia dell’ Etna area. As this is the area most exposed to volcanic activity, it shows no vegetation; in fact, you will see only the volcanic desert around you. The Cableway base is usually the arriving point for many visitors; it is actually the busier, more hectic one, as it is the most crowded and touristic part of Etna.

Once at Rifugio Sapienza, you could opt for taking the cableway and the big 4×4 jeeps (not included in the price) to get to the summit area (2900 meters), taking in the breathtaking view of the Catania Bay as well as one of the top craters up above you.
